The Wilmington Ballet, in collaboration with “A Celebration of Black Joy,” musical director Jonathan Whitney, will host a celebration commemorating Juneteenth Freedom Day. Storytellers, musicians, dancers, and vendors will fill the Enchanted Woods and Copeland Lecture Hall with performances enriched by and deeply rooted in African American arts and culture. It celebrates the joy that can be found in the lives of people of color throughout their history in America through storytelling and music. The joy found at churches, BBQs, weddings, births, chance meetings on the street, within children at play, and yes, even going home services, has served as Black America’s greatest protest.
